Activity: Baking

Reasons I think baking is good:

- The best of your childhood is spent baking with your Nanna.
- My brothers always looked forward to eating my cakes!
- Its the best way to make a birthday cake special.
- Its therapeutic
- It a cheap and easy way to make tasty snacks.
- Learn how to bake, and you have the ability to cook.
- Its a lovely way to make money for charity, to set up a stall at your local church selling cakes.
- It super fun.
- Experiment and you can surprise yourself!
- Licking the bowl afterwards is like your reward.
- If you bake. You don't have to wash up. Thats the rule.
- You bake it, you know exactly what goes in it.
- You can adapt your cakes to your taste.
- Its so rewarding.

Facts about baking:

- Its most defiantly something you do with your grandparents.
A person who prepares baked goods as a profession is called a baker.
The place where a baker worksis called a bakery.
The first group of people to bake bread were ancient Egyptians, around 8000 BC.
During the very very old ages it was common for each landlord to have a bakery.
- A bakers dozen is 13, a safeguard against cheating, under-filled orders, or any appearance of impropriety, bakers commonly began to throw in one more loaf of bread.
- Baking can consist of making bread, pastries, cakes, biscuits and desserts.
- The term making means using the heat of an oven to convert flour, water, yeast and sugar and such into baked goods.
- Baking is quite tricky, you need to have exact amounts, if you don't the product can really go wrong.

"Caramel Rolls
24 Rhodes frozen rolls, frozen
1/2 cup sugar
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1/2 cup chopped pecans (optional)
1/2 cup butter
1 package cook n serve butterscotch pudding, dry
1/2 cup brown sugar
--The night before, grease 10x13 pan and place frozen rolls in bottom then sprinkle 1/2 cup white sugar, 1 tsp cinnamon, 1/2 cup chopped nuts and then dry pudding over top. In medium saucepan, melt 1/2 cup butter and 1/2 cup brown sugar and pour over top of rolls. Place pan on counter and cover lightly with paper towels and let thaw and rise overnight. In the morning uncover and bake at 350 for 30-35 minutes or until golden brown. Turn out onto serving dish and serve warm.

Lunch Ladies Peanut Butter Bars
1 cup sugar
1 cup brown sugar, firmly packed
1 cup butter
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
2 large eggs
1 cup peanut butter, creamy
2 cups oatmeal, not quick
2 cups flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon salt
--Cream first three ingredients together. Add the vanilla, eggs and peanut butter and combine. Add the remaining ingredients and mix together. Spread dough on a greased sheet cake pan. Bake at 350° for 15 minutes until golden brown. While hot spread 1 1/2 cups creamy peanut butter on top. Cool so that the peanut butter has become solid again then spread chocolate frosting on top and cut into bars.

My Grandma's Peanut Butter Chocolate Chip Cookies
3/4 cup margarine
1 cup chunky peanut butter
1 1/2 cups brown sugar
1 egg
1 cup oatmeal
1 1/4 cups flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 cup chocolate chips or M&M's
--Cream margarine, peanut butter, and brown sugar. Beat in egg. Stir together oatmeal, flour, baking soda, and salt. Stir into creamed batter. Stir in chocolate chips. Bake on cookie sheet at 350 degrees for 8-10 minutes.

My Mom's Famous Banana Bread
1 1/2 cups sugar
3/4 cup shortening
2 eggs
1/4 cup milk
1 1/2 cups mashed bananas
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 1/2 teaspoons baking soda
3 cups flour
3/4 cup nuts (optional)
1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla
3/4 cup all-bran cereal
--Preheat oven to 350. Cream shortening with sugar, add beaten eggs and milk. Sift together flour, salt, and baking soda and add to batter alternating with the banana. Add nuts, then All-Bran and vanilla. Pour into 2 greased loaf pans and bake for 50-60 minutes.

Chances are it won't rise
