Answers:
"I love going to Alnmouth in the summer. Talking a walk on the beach, having a look around the town and going for a pint in one of the pubs. Same with Warkworth and Bamburgh.
Kielder is great place to spend a day, taking photos and having a look around the forest. Ingram Valley is awesome for a bit of a trek. There's some nice walks between Catcleugh reservoir and the Scottish border. You get superb views for miles around. There's an incredible waterfall called hidden off a side road close to a village called Ford. Amazing place, really atmospheric, I'd suggest it to anyone. Routing Lynn Linhope Spout is pretty good too.
I used to live in a tiny village called Hartburn. The walks around there are great, especially down by the river. It's a beautiful part of the world. Bolam Lake and Plessey Woods are nice as well.
My favourite town is Morpeth. Quiet, relaxed, pleasant, nice place to live or to visit, close enough to Newcastle if you feel the need. So, there you go. Edit - Thrunton Woods is a lovely spot too.""Bamburgh Castle, it has the finest collection of antique armour in the country, very close to Banburgh castle are the Farne Islands, worth a visit but check the tide tables as the islands are only accessible at low tide. Also within range ia Holy Island. Three for the price of one."
" Hexham is a nice town with a number of shops, places to eat and attractions such as the old jail. It also has a river and a number of walks that you can go on."
"I think the previous posters have named some of my favorites - Almnouth, Bamburgh. I love the small town of Seahouses just down from Bamburgh. Also, the beach at Druridge Bay is absolutely beautiful!"
"Lindisfarne and the beach at Bamburgh. Berwick upon Tweed is worth a walk around the walls too."
.....
Through the answers I came to understand that it's certainly not just me who has a love for Northumberland! It's certainly renowned for it's beaches and castles. This initial research helped me understand what it was I wanted to focus on when researching. Castles primarily.
