Newbiggin by the Sea
The closest beach to my dads house, I spent a lot of time here as a child. Its a beautifully cold place! But has had much improvement over recent years. The beach was very dirty, with little sand, and was generally quite run down and deteriorating. Considering it was once a very popular holiday resort, due to the close caravan site and beautiful views, it really needed the improvement. The sand on the beach was restored, tonnes and tonnes of sand spread across. Along with a good painting along hand rails, the park massively improved and some structures and statues set in place. It's now a beautiful place.
It now has a new museum built on the sea front, which explains the fishing history within Newbiggin which attracts many visitors.
I feel it is a 'good' place due to the lack of people who know of it, and appreciate it. It's not too busy during the summer months meaning you can have a walk along the beach and it's not crowded. There's a beautiful ice cream parlour and several local cafe's which sell local produce. The life guard centre holds fete's and fundraising events throughout the year, and fishermen and their boats can often be seen leaving the dry harbour. The views in and around Newbiggin are stunning; a church is set high up on a clifftop, overlooking the sea.
I took a trip with the grandparents to take a few images to show the real beauty and improvement recently made.
