"Can I use baking soda instead of baking powder when baking sugar cookies?"
" No.
Baking powder is activated by liquid
baking soda is activated by acid...i.e. vinegar, buttermilk etc.
Chances are it won't rise

" You can substitute baking powder in place of baking soda (you'll need more baking powder and it may affect the taste), but you can't use baking soda when a recipe calls for baking powder. Baking soda by itself lacks the acidity to make the cookies rise. However, you can make your own baking powder if you have baking soda and cream of tartar. Simply mix two parts cream of tartar with one part baking soda. "

"I'm moving house for the first time, any useful tips?"

Get rid of the accumulated junk but have a look at tit first. If you can not remember whar it means dump it now. Does it have great sentimental value think again but be ruthless and when you have decided to keep some have another look.
Label your boxes as to what is in them even if ir s just a list in the box. Decide where you want each box in the house when you get there.
We neither did a label and our decisions as to where each box whent awry due to circumstances under the control of the vendor.
You wil find if yoy do this it can actually be hard work but not unpleasent.
Above all remember where you put the kettle. "

firstly, its not stressful, its an opportunity to get rid of all ur shite u have accumulated. top tip is this: think of ur new place as room numbers. every box u pack, every single item u pack, needs to be packed where u want it unpacked..ie living room kitchen.etc...label the bedrooms in ur new house 1 as the largest 2 as the next largest, etc..im in my 12th house now and most of the stress is the unpacking, and u can spend days running around putting things in the right places. if u have hired someone to move u, either get boxes and packing tape off them and pack urself, or wait and get them to do it...that way everything they pack will be covered in their insurance, not urs"

Moving house, quite literally.

And again. What you do, when you get a free house...with the condition that you have to move it.

A removal van is a necessity

You may need a new burly men to help you pick up those heavy items of furniture.

Collect boxes!

Label everything. The last thing you want to do is to loose the kettle..

Thus the reasons for a removal van.

Activity: Dreaming

Why I think dreaming is good:

- It's an interesting and mysterious thing
- Trying to find the difference between reality and dream can be hard!
- Some dreams can be amazing
- Dreams can open your eyes to things you need to change
- If you get your dreams studied, a professional can tell you more about yourself
- You can say and act in all sorts of ways in bed when dreaming
- Dreams can make you sleep walk
- Dreaming means your in a deep sleep, and will wake up fully rested.
- Dreams can come in a range of form, whether that be pleasant or nightmares
- The best dreams you forget
- Dreaming can make you forget everything, make things magical
- Day dreaming is pleasant, but looks rather strange to onlooker...staring into space is odd.

.....

Facts about dreaming:

-Dreams are successions of images, ideas, emotions and sensations occurring involuntarily in the mind during certain stages of sleep.
The scientific study of dreams is known as oneirology
Scientists believe that everyone dreams, but people will tend to forget them when they naturally pass out of sleep through the traditional sleep cycle
If a person is awoken during REM sleep, they are much more likely to remember the dream.
Dreams mainly occur in the R.E.M. stage (rapid-eye movement) of sleep, that is when brain activity is high and signalled by continuous movements of the eyes
Dreams are a connection to the human subconscious. They can range from normal and ordinary to overly surreal and bizarre
Dreams can often at times make a creative thought to the person or give a sense of inspiration
Dream interpretations date back to 5000-4000 B.C., where they were documented on clay tablets. The earliest recorded dreams were acquired from materials dating back approximately 5000 years, in Mesopotamia
In some of the earliest societies, people were unable to tell the difference between the dream world and the waking world. They just simply chose not to make the distinction because they believed that the dream world was an extension of reality, though a more powerful world.
The most common emotion experienced in dreams is anxiety. Other emotions include abandonment, anger, fear, joy, happiness, etc. Negative emotions are much more common than positive ones.
A small minority of people say that they dream only in black and white.
A daydream is a visionary fantasy, especially one of happy, pleasant thoughts, hopes or ambitions, imagined as coming to pass, and experienced while awake.

" What causes some people to dream in black and white?"

Hello, I have found a very interesting article, it may answer your question:

It's quite a commonly-held belief that we dream in black and white! It's not true, of course. You can see this by the fact that at least every now-and-then you can remember a dream in which there was some colour.

So why is it believed that we dream in black and white? I know why, and I'll try to explain it, but it's not an easy thing to explain as there are extra concepts required.

The first thing is that YES it's true there are dreams in which there is no colour, but that is not because they're in black and white!

What happens is that in dreaming, the automatic checking systems that go on in the mind are turned off. So, if the queen of England visited and brought a few aliens round for tea you'd probably be working out if you'd got enough cups and whether the biscuits you'd got would be acceptable, rather than thinking that it was a bit odd to be visited by the queen and some aliens.

Also, in dreams, things which aren't relevant are just UNSPECIFIED, and there are no alarm bells to flag up that something is MISSING. So, when you're flying on a magic carpet, you can't necessarily say which shoes you might have been wearing.

But not being able to tell what shoes you had on does not imply you were barefoot. This is what happens with the COLOUR situation. In a dream, where the colour of something is relevant, you see colour, but where the colour is not relevant, there is NO COLOUR INFORMATION. But that doesn't mean it's in black&white.

Black and white is a function of televisions when the colour information is removed, but the same is not true of the mind. Take a look at a few examples, grass for example might not be green in a dream, but it's not grey like in a black and white movie. It's just not relevant what colour it is. Most people's hair colour is not grey in a dream, but just "average coloured". If you saw Zyra in a dream, you'd probably see a vivid hair colour but not necessarily be able to tell what colour it was!

It is this, the fact that "missing" information is not noticed to be missing, that fools the conscious mind on waking up into concluding that therefore by implication the dream must have been in black and white, whereas in fact it was just that colour wasn't important in that particular dream.

Plus, if anyone actually still believes that in dreams there is never any colour because the experts always say "we dream in black and white", just stop believing the experts! You'll soon wake up and find you have dreamt something which had some vivid colour!"

What are lucid dreams and do they make your dream come true?"
Yes, a lot of people have used lucid dreaming to control their dreams. Most people have experienced a lucid dream when they suddenly become aware that they're dreaming. Usually, they wake up when this happens.

The goal of lucid dreaming is to train yourself to recognize that you're dreaming so that you'll be able to make your dreams into whatever you want them to be, without waking up. Some people use lucid dreaming to live happier lives and to take advantage of the creative subconscious that takes over in a dream state, to solve their problems.

But you'll need dedication and practice to get lucid dreaming to work for you. One method is to have a dream journal, which is a journal you write in daily (or whenever you dream). Write whatever you remember of your dreams when you wake up, even if it's fragmented or short.

You will begin to notice things about your dreams in your journal. These "things" are occurrences which can't happen in real life, and they're called called signs. An example is, you might dream that you're in your house and suddenly your dog starts hovering above you. Your sign for this dream is that your dog was flying.

Over time, you'll be exposed to these signs in your dream journal, and will begin to recognize that you're dreaming when a similar sign shows up during your dream. It might take you weeks to develop the first lucid dreams, so it takes a lot of patience and devotion.

There are other techniques but the dream journal is the most common and one of the most effective I know."

Focus.

I have research a good percentage of things I find 'Good' in some depth and should really start to focus on what I want to take even further.

I am taking into account the amount of resources and direct and primary research I can conduct. So I can gain a very good, detailed, breadth of research.

I am going to put forward researching:

  • Bicycles - My partner is a bike technician. I can gain much information about the bikes he has in store, each of the parts which make up a bike. Problems which can occur and solutions. I could also go in store and record sales made in a few days, taking it into categories of: Type of bike, age of buyer, colour of bike, price of bike etc. I think this would be a very good approach as I can gain so much!
  • Ice skating - As I already have a personal love for ice skating, I believe this will motivate me to learn as much as possible. An ice rink is within walking distance of my partner, I could go ice skating, note down a series of facts and figures whilst there. I could count, within an hour how many people fall, how many people are on the rink, how many come across as being 'professional', how many seed skaters there are, and how many can skate backwards. I could categorise each person according to age and skill. Another thing I could do to gain primary research is to take part in an ice skating lesson, to note down any advice and understand how the level system works.
  • Piano's - Considering I can play the keyboard to some level, I believe I would benefit from conducting a deeper level of research within this area. I could record how long it take me to learn to read music. I could record myself along the way. I could use books and other resources to help me and conduct research to see if anyone plays the piano/keyboard and if they could teach me. I could possibly get a professional keyboard lesson too, and record how you are graded and what each level means.

Activity: Ice Skating

Why I think ice skating is good:

- Cos' I can skate
- My mummy taught me to skate when I was 7
- You got to have some serious skill to be like Torville and Dean.
- Childhood memories!
- Watching everyone else is such a comedy.
- I love taking friends and attempting to teach them...
- Its like dodgems
- The combination of dance, music and skating is unbelievable.
- You feel really elegant thudding around the carpet in skates. Not.
- White skates make you feel so much better than everyone else.
- Its a fun workout!
- I love sliding across the ice...to some extent.
- Findings a cold compress when you fall over isn't too difficult.
- You get some serious balancing skills.
- I have an ability to skate backwards, smug.
- Its super fun......

Facts about ice skating:

- It takes more than just a few trips to the ice rink to learn how to skate.
- Its best to learn from a young age.
- To skate, you wear ice skates. Simple.
- There is generally just one ice rink in a city, some don't have even one.
- Ice rinks can get very busy and quite dangerous.
- To be able to skate professionally you really have to have lessons.
- Ice rinks don't have to be stationary nor inside. You can get outdoor ice rinks - Leeds boasts the one it has every winter.
- Skating can be done for leisure, sports or travel.
- You can skate in other places than just ice rinks, some frozen lakes and rivers (if frozen enough) can be safe to skate on.
A study by Federico Formenti of the University of Oxford suggests that the earliest ice skating happened in southern Finland about 4000 years ago.
Originally, skates were merely sharpened, flattened bone strapped to the bottom of the foot.
Adding edges to ice skates was invented by the Dutch in the 13th or 14th century
In the Netherlands, ice skating was considered proper for all classes of people, as shown in many pictures by the Old MastersJames II of England came to the Netherlands in exile, and he fell for the sport.
Emperor Rudolf II of the Holy Roman Empire enjoyed ice skating so much he had a large ice carnival constructed in his court in order to popularise the sport. King Louis XVI of France brought ice skating toParis during his reign. Madame de PompadourNapoleon INapoleon III, and the House of Stuart were, among others, royal and upper class fans of ice skating and ice hockey.
Ice skating works because the metal blade at the bottom of the skate shoe can glide with very little friction over the surface of the ice. However, slightly leaning the blade over and digging one of its edges into the ice ("rock over and bite") gives skaters the ability to increase friction and control their movement at will.
The primary danger in ice skating is falling on the ice. The chance of falling depends on the roughness of the ice, the design of the ice skate, and the skill and experience of the skater. While serious injury is rare, a number of short track skaters have been paralysed after a fall when they hit the boarding.
The second, and more serious, danger is falling through the ice into the freezing water underneath when skating outdoors on a frozen body of water. This can lead to serious injury or death due to shockhypothermia or drowning.
General ice thickness guidelines for new clear ice only:
2" or less - STAY OFF
4" - Ice fishing or other activities on foot
5" - Snowmobile or ATV
8" - 12" - Car or small pickup
12" - 15" - Medium truck

Opinions about ice skating:

Yahoo Answers - A previously posted question: "How much should I teach myself before I start to ice skate?"
"  On the very first lesson they'll teach you how to stop. And they'll teach you loads more stuff. Make sure your ready for your lesson. You might want to teach yourself how to fall safely and get back up safely. But they will teach you that on your very first lessons.

Some tips for you lesson.
Don't wear jeans! - They will way you down when you get them wet and it won't be easy to move in!
Don't be afraid to fall! - Just laugh it up and get back up!
Don't look down at your feet! - Most common thing skaters do is look down at their feet, don't!
Do warm up! - Make sure you strech before and after your lesson!
Do tie your skates or buckle them correctly! - Not too tight and not too loose!

Don't lean backwards! - Your going to slip! "
The teacher/teachers don't expect student to know everything on the first day of class. They will teach everything you need to know including stopping.  "
it's more embarrassing to teach yourself and it turns out to be incorrect than not to know how to do anything at all. "

Yahoo Answers - A previously posted question: "What is the safest way to fall when ice skating?"
If so, put both feet parallel together, bend your knees, place hands on both knees, look up. If you fall, try not to put your hand out to "break the fall." Immediately tuck yourself in (pull your knees in, like a fetal position). That way, there's less of a chance someone will trip on your outstretched arm."
" When a fall happens the person that has fallen has to try to get up as quickly as possible. Someone lying on the ice cannot be seen as readily as someone standing. Skaters need to learn how to fall in such a way that injuries are avoided. By keeping their hands away from their skate blades serious gashes and cuts can be prevented. When witnessing a fall it is important to ascertain the fallen skater's status quickly. If the fall has caused a major injury someone should stand over the fallen person to keep other skaters from colliding with him. It is vital to realize that trying to move such an individual can cause great harm. Alerting others to the situation and having someone seek medical help is prudent "
" Try not to land hard on your hands-youll break your wrist.
The recommended nisa (national ice skating association) method is to try and touch your toes so try that. I just king of twist and bend my knees so it hurts less and that works for me but idk if it will work for u. "
